TF-CBT - REGISTRATION CLOSED
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy addresses the negative effects of sexual abuse and other traumatic events by integrating several therapeutic approaches and treating both child and parent in a comprehensive manner. In this training, co-sponsored by Safe Haven Child Advocacy Center, WVCAN, Shepherd University Department of Social Work and the Sisters of St. Joseph, participants will be able to:
- Identify ways that traumatic experiences have the potential to impact a child's development and health throughout the lifespan.
- Explain why trauma-informed care is vital and distinguish between traditional mental health treatment and trauma-focused care.
- Apply each component of TF-CBT model to address the issues of child sexual abuse.
- Describe the nature of research that supports the efficacy of TF-CBT.
Therapists who attend the training will learn to identify appropriate cases for TF-CBT and will learn to deliver the treatment components in a way that is faithful to the model but allows for flexibility and creativity. Therapists who sign up for this training are signing up for a training package that includes: ongoing consultation calls with the trainer, a booster session, and ongoing peer review upon completion of the consultation calls.
